Residents across Dhaka have been grappling with a significant increase in mosquito populations, leading to heightened concerns over public health and daily discomfort. Areas such as Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Farmgate, Jatrabari, Badda, Rampura, Dhanmondi, Gulshan, Basabo, and parts of Old Dhaka have reported severe infestations, with citizens expressing frustration over the persistent nuisance.
In response to the escalating situation, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman directed city administrators to implement swift measures to curb the mosquito menace. Following this directive, both Dhaka North and Dhaka South City Corporations launched special anti-mosquito drives aimed at providing relief to the city’s inhabitants. These initiatives include intensified cleanliness campaigns and enhanced monitoring systems to ensure the effectiveness of mosquito control efforts.
Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md Abdus Salam emphasized the importance of public cooperation in these endeavors, stating that no initiative can succeed without the active participation of the community. He also highlighted the identification of high-risk areas based on mosquito prevalence and warned of potential legal actions against property owners who fail to maintain their premises, thereby contributing to the problem.
As the city continues to combat this challenge, residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and support the authorities by eliminating potential mosquito breeding sites within their surroundings. The collective effort of both the government and the community is crucial in mitigating the impact of mosquito infestations and safeguarding public health.
